Brand new duo Jakkin Rabbit have just released their latest EP, Pushin, on Louie Fresco’s imprint Mexa Records. Featuring the iconic vocalist Robert Owens, and remixes from FreakMe, Sonny Fodera, Adriatique and Louie himself. As San Diego based blog Music 4 Lovers says “Jakkin Rabbit, one half Marc Spence and one half Danny Kane, has created a go-to dance floor heater with Pushin’, sure to get any crowd groovin.”
With good things definitely ahead for these boys, we decided it was high time we caught up with Spence and Danny for a quick chat about all things Jakkin Rabbit…
Where did you get the inspiration for your name?
Spence: About four or five years ago a guy came up to me and said “Damn, you play some jakkin grooves.” Which got me thinking, then later that week I also watched 8 Mile, where Eminem’s alias was ‘B Rabbit’, then after watching Matrix a couple days later and the phrase “follow the white rabbit” came up, it all just clicked as one really.
Tell us one fact about yourself each…
Spence: I can do a bad-ass impression of a pig squealing! Ha!
Danny : I keep telling myself I can swim but I can’t.
You just did a track on Mexa Records with the legend that is Robert Owens- what is your favourite ever Robert Owens track?
Danny: It’s got to be TEARS!
Frankie Knuckles Presents Satoshi Tomiie – Tears featuring Robert Owens
Spence: An obvious answer, but it has to be I’ll Be Your Friend, you just can’t ignore how much of a classic that track is!
Robert Owens – I’ll Be Your Friend
Who is your biggest EVER musical inspiration?
Spence: Switch aka Dave Taylor – I used to play breakbeat and drum and bass until I heard his production.
Danny : ’80s electronic funk duo The System (Mic Murphy & David Franks).
What does 2013 hold for Jakkin Rabbit?
So far we’ve got a 3 track EP set to be released in February on Jonny White from Art Department’s No.19 Records.
Jakkin Rabbit’s new EP Pushin is out now on Mexa Records available on Beatport.
